University

Virtually all girls go on to higher education at well-established universities (pdf), reading a range of subjects including engineering, medicine and law. Others undertake a foundation diploma at a College of Art prior to applying for a fine art degree.

To help guide you in your choice of course and university, you will complete a Centigrade questionnaire and receive a personal report. This will form the basis of your research into choosing degree courses.

During the Lent term, visits are arranged for both the Oxbridge Conference and UCAS Higher Education Fair, as well as individual university open days. Practice interview sessions are arranged, conducted by contacts from various professions, including university admissions tutors.

GAP Year

About half Upper VI Form / Year 13 girls take a GAP year after completing their A-levels and avail themselves of the opportunities offered by organisations which co-ordinate overseas projects, such as GAP, Africa and Asia Venture and Raleigh International.

Girls have visited countries ranging from Peru and Argentina to Thailand, Malawi and India, taking on community based ventures, conservation projects or teaching in schools.

The benefits of a well-structured year out are now widely recognised by universities but a successful GAP year requires careful planning.
