Learning Skills Development

Spectrum

The learning and skills development provision is called Spectrum because it enhances the learning experience of all girls, across a range of interests and talents, nationalities, skills and abilities.

Our aim is to facilitate learning excellence for all girls, giving them “roots to grow and wings to fly” so that their full potential, in terms of confidence and competence, is achieved.

The approach is based on a multi-sensory holistic “head-heart-hand” model, encompassing intellectual aspects, emotional and motivational issues, practical skills and techniques appropriate to individual learning styles.

Spectrum currently encompasses five areas of additional learning and skills provision:

  1. Study skills input is provided via targeted sessions at transition stages. It is also embedded within classroom practice in line with the teaching and learning programme.
  2. Enrichment activities and other facilitation is available for girls within the “able, talented and gifted” (ATG) cohort.
  3. Individual sessions are available for the following:
    1. International students may have “English as a foreign language” (EFL) sessions.
    2. Girls with “specific learning difficulties” (SpLD) may have sessions based upon their “individual learning profile” (ILP).
    3. Any girl who experiences a particular area of challenge in her learning may attend a short series of individual booster shot sessions.
