Information Technology
Information Technology at Heathfield St Mary’s is designed to fully support the teaching of all subjects during our girls’ time here, including research, communications, document creation and file storage as well as leisure activities. Every girl is given an account and password which provides controlled access to network resources. They are provided with personal storage space, an e-mail account and printer credits which can be used with any printer on the network. School e-mail is accessible from home or anywhere where there is an internet connection.
A private leased line provides fast, secure connection to the internet. More than 40 wireless access points and comprehensive network cabling provide connectivity to almost all areas of the school. For their safety and network security, we use an advanced firewall and content filtering system in order to ensure safe internet surfing and fair sharing of the internet bandwidth for all users. Anti-virus and anti-spyware software is used on all our computers. Two advanced spam filters ensure that only meaningful and appropriate e-mail reaches girls’ mailboxes.
There are two dedicated ICT suites featuring the latest interactive SMARTboards and desktop PCs. Further PCs in the main library, junior library, music room and art department add up to over 60 computers dedicated to girls’ use. All suites feature colour printers and scanners. All classrooms now have SMARTboards and/or data projector facilities and a connection to multimedia content such as streaming video for instant access. Digital cameras and camcorders are available for student loan, as well as professional editing software.
