ICT
The ICT (Information and Communication Technology) department's aim is that all girls should gain proficient computer skills in order to support their learning across all subjects and to gain ICT qualifications in their own right. Whether creating coursework documents, researching a subject on the internet, producing a programme for a drama production or assessing their business accounts for Young Enterprise, we aim to give the girls the fully rounded computing skills they will need in further education and, eventually, in their chosen profession.
Forms I - III / Years 7 - 9
Girls are taught all Microsoft Office software through project work. By the end of Form III / Year 9 they will have gained the OCR Level 1 Certificate for IT Users (CLAiT), with individual modules in word processing, spreadsheets, computer art, databases, presentation graphics and web page design.
GCSE
Girls may choose to take the AQA GCSE Business & Communications course in Forms IV and V / Years 10 and 11. Girls study the practical use of IT in the business environment, as well as theoretical aspects of workplace organisation, human resources and business communications.
OCR Level 2 Certificate for IT Users
As an alternative to the GCSE syllabus, girls can prepare for the OCR Level 2 Certificate for IT Users (CLAiT Plus). These modular examinations cover advanced computer skills, concentrating on word processing, presentation graphics, electronic communications, computer art and file integration.
Sixth Form
Girls can continue to improve their IT skills in the Lower VI Form / Year 12. Lessons include touch-typing, advanced word processing skills, presentation graphics, current affairs and use of video software.
