Geography
"Geography is the subject which holds the key to our future"
Michael Palin
Our aim is to stimulate and encourage the girls to develop an understanding and awareness of geographical concepts and environmental issues.
Forms I - III / Years 7 - 9
In order to widen the perspective and look at different people, places and environments on a larger scale, a series of case studies and independently researched projects are explored. These include: native tribes of rainforests, tourism in developing countries, natural hazards, globalisation of the fashion industry, contrasts in development and crime patterns.
Trips to the New Forest, the Living Rainforest, Cheddar Gorge and Rushall Farm in Berkshire form the basis of local study and fieldwork. A trip to Barcelona, Spain ensures first-hand experience of this EU country.
GCSE
The Edexcel A course promotes in-depth study of different aspects of our world with a view to managing our environment sustainably. An urban study of Windsor and an enquiry-based project on changing methods at Rushall Farm in Bradfield provide a hands-on approach as well as helping to develop geographical awareness and skills.
AS and A-level
Girls follow the AQA Geography A specification, examining the interaction of people and their environments in a wide range of contexts and locations. Several local investigations are carried out in Berkshire during the course of both AS and A2.
