Entry Procedures

There are four stages of the entry process:

  • Enquiry

  • Registration

  • Entrance examinations

  • Offer and acceptance of a place

Enquiry

Please contact our Registrar for a prospectus. We will enter your daughter onto our database and keep in touch with you, especially as the entry date for your daughter draws nearer.

We hold regular open mornings for girls and their families. You are also welcome to arrange an individual visit to the school for a tour and meeting with the Headmistress.

Registration

Once you have completed our registration form a place is reserved for your daughter in the appropriate year group. You may register your daughter at any time but we suggest that you do so as early as possible and no later than Easter of the year of entry.

We will then contact her current school to request a reference and to let them know that you are considering Heathfield St Mary’s. We will also keep in regular touch with you with news of school events and publications.

Invitation Day is held each autumn for girls who are registered to join Forms I to III / Years 7 to 9 the following September. Girls take part in subject workshops and also enjoy drama and sport.

Entrance Examinations

Forms I to III / Years 7 to 9
Entry at 11+ and 13+ is via the Comon Entrance Examination.

Applicants unable to take the Common Entrance Examination, those wishing to enter at 12+ and overseas candidates, may sit our own entrance examination.

Girls will take the appropriate entrance examination at Heathfield St Mary’s and will be interviewed by the Headmistress and a Head of House. Sometimes girls will stay overnight before the tests start and will join in with prep and activities. It is possible for them to take the papers at their own school.

Form IV / Year 10
For entry at 14+, girls wishing to apply for a place in Form IV / Year 10, take papers in English, mathematics, one science and French, and have an interview with the Head of House and the Headmistress.

Sixth Form
Entry to Lower VI Form / Year 12 is via predicted GCSE grades or equivalent and tests in the proposed AS/A level subjects. All girls are expected to gain at least five GCSEs at grades A* to C, with A*, A or B grades in the subjects they intend to study at AS and A level. Girls who have not taken GCSEs are tested in their chosen subjects. We also require predicted grades for GCSE and AS/A level examinations.

Scholarships are awarded on the basis of the tests taken in the proposed AS/A level subjects.

Offer and Acceptance

If your daughter reaches our standard at Common Entrance/entrance examinations we will make a formal offer of a place. We will send you an acceptance form which should be completed and returned to us.
