Business Studies
We aim to develop the girls' knowledge and the skills necessary to understand the ways in which businesses function in national and international economic environments. Our study programme provides an awareness of the relationship between business and the wider political, social and technological environment.
AS and A-level
Business studies is offered at AS and A2. The AQA specification offers:
| • | An innovative specification, based on the principles of progression, integration and investigation |
| • | An emphasis on the relevance of business studies to real-world issues |
| • | The full 30% weighting allowable for coursework if this route is selected |
| • | Signposting on opportunities for collecting key skills evidence through teaching and coursework |
| • | A full range of high-quality supporting materials to facilitate course delivery |
The main topics that are studied at AS and A2 level include:
• Marketing, accounting and finance
• People and operations management
• External influences, objectives and strategy
Resources
Subscriptions to newspapers and magazines such as Business Review ensure that the girls are familiar with current events. Girls also visit local businesses as part of the curriculum to see how organisations operate.
Girls who study business studies possess the necessary background to participate in the Young Enterprise programme, where they experience the processes involved in the establishment and operation of a business, based on a product which they choose to sell.
Business studies is relevant to many courses at university. Admissions tutors and future employers are likely to welcome applications from girls who can demonstrate an awareness of the business and economic environment in which they live.
